The 2008 Depew Legion baseball team will look to improve upon last season, as they finished with a 6-12 record. In 2007, the Depew Legion team lost 9 games by 2 runs or less.

Good Luck to last year's departing seniors, Don McEvoy (C-1B-OF), Ed Hoeffler (LHP-OF), Justin Nowak (RHP-IF), Jeremy Nowak (RHP-SS), Corey Rogers (RHP-2B-3B), and Cory Roeder (LHP-OF). They were all excellent players who represented the Depew Post and the team well, while providing outstanding leadership to the younger players.

Jake Nowak (RHP-IF/Depew, NY/Maryvale HS) will lead the pitching staff, along with returning pitcher Nick Law (RHP-OF/Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale HS), and new additions, Jon Klein (RHP-IF/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS), Tyler Molina (LHP-OF/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS), Josh Strzelec (LHP-1B/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS), and Aaron Schaefer (OF-P/Cheektowaga, NY/JFK HS).

Behind the plate, Joe Christiano (C-3B/Depew, NY/Depew HS) and Matt Bunting (C-1B/Depew, NY/Maryvale HS) will split time and be backed up by Jeremy Limardi (C-3B-OF/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS).

Also returning is Ryan Jaracz (OF-RHP/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS). As the starting center fielder, Ryan's talent and experience will play a significant part in the team's success.

Along with Jaracz, Law, Molina, and Schaefer will round out the outfield.

Klein, Limardi and Strzelec will join newcomers Steve Karnyski (IF/Depew, NY/Depew HS), Max McKenna (IF/Buffalo, NY/City Honors HS), Marco Marerro (IF/Buffalo, NY/Emerson HS), Frank Mancuso (IF/Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga HS), and Jordan Halligan (3B/Sloan, NY/JFK HS), who are expected to have an immediate impact as infielders.

Coach Sekuterski returns for his third season as the teams leader after working as the teams assistant coach in 2004 and 2005.

The season is scheduled to open at the Rojek Field (Tonawanda) on Saturday, June 7th against Sikora. The home opener at Dawson Field is scheduled for Monday, June 9th at 6:15 PM against Jurek.
